Standard AS 2088:2022 Baby strollers - Safety requirements, replacing AS/NZS 2088:2013, published on June 24, 2022.

After consultation with stakeholders from both countries, Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand have decided to prepare this document as an Australian standard rather than an Australian/New Zealand standard.

The main changes in this version are as follows:

(a) Expand the scope to include convertible and other vehicles designed to transport children in a sitting position.

(b) Introduce the definition of terms related to frame folding locking;

(c) Specifications for areas accessible to children in vehicles;

(d) Extend the requirement for finger pinch hazards to include openings of specific sizes;

(e) Added requirements for parking brake actuators on vehicles with reversible handles;

(f) Additional testing configurations for stability testing;

(g) A new method for measuring the inclination angle of the seat backrest has been proposed;

(h) Revised requirements for frame folding locking

(i) Added requirements for marking on packaging

(j) Revise the warning notification requirements in the product and manual.


Solution:

There are indications that ACCC is considering updating the Trade Practices Act of 1974- Consumer Protection Notice No. 8 of 2007 (referred to as CPN No. 8).

As of today, CPN No. 8 is still a valid mandatory law. For strollers or strollers exported to Australia, manufacturers should ensure that the product complies with both CPN NO.8 and AS 2088:2022.
