What are the testing items for Canadian food material contact SOR/2016-175

Date:2024-04-15 10:05:09 Classification :【question】 Visits:
If your glass is intended to be sold in or exported to Canada, it needs to comply with the Canadian SOR/2016-175 regulations. This regulation covers glazed ceramic and glassware, including cups, cutlery and other related food contact materials. Regulations have strict regulations on the migration limits of harmful substances such as lead and cadmium to ensure the safety of food contact materials.

Glass SOR/2016-175 testing items:

1. Sensory testing: Food contact materials are evaluated through sensory testing to ensure that they will not have adverse effects on food.

2. Soaking liquid testing: Put food contact materials into simulated food and soak them for a period of time, and then analyze the chemical components in the soaking liquid to determine whether the food contact materials are likely to migrate harmful substances into the food.

3. Chemical performance testing: Test the chemical properties of food contact materials, including whether they contain harmful chemicals, such as heavy metals, formaldehyde, etc.

4. Barrier performance test: Test the barrier properties of food contact materials, such as gas barrier, water vapor barrier, etc., to ensure that food will not be affected by the external environment.

5. Heat resistance performance test: Test the performance of food contact materials at high temperatures to evaluate their safety in high-temperature environments such as microwave ovens and ovens.

6. Cold resistance performance test: Test the performance of food contact materials at low temperatures to evaluate their safety in use in low-temperature environments such as refrigerators and freezers.

7. Surface coating testing: Test whether the surface coating of food contact materials is wear-resistant, easy to clean, non-toxic, etc. to ensure that the product will not cause food contamination during use.

SOR/2016-175 testing process:

1. Understand the standard requirements: Before starting the test, you need to understand the requirements and restrictions of the SOR/2016-175 standard in detail, including the content limits of heavy metals and other harmful substances allowed in the glass.

2. Choose a suitable testing agency: Choose a testing agency with qualifications and experience to test the glass. Ensure that the testing agency has relevant certifications and qualifications to ensure the accuracy and reliability of testing results.

3. Submit samples: Submit glass samples according to the requirements of the testing agency. It is usually necessary to provide a sufficient number of samples for testing.

4. Preliminary testing: The testing agency will conduct preliminary testing on the sample, including inspection of appearance, texture, color, etc., to determine whether it meets the basic requirements of the SOR/2016-175 standard.

5. Chemical testing: If the preliminary test passes, the testing agency will conduct chemical testing to determine whether the glass contains excessive heavy metals and other harmful substances.

6. Waiting for test results: Waiting for the testing agency to provide the final test results. If the sample meets the requirements of SOR/2016-175 regulations, the testing agency will issue a corresponding test report.
