A report released Tuesday by the Education Fund of the Public Interest Research Organization (PIRG) of the United States said that the only solution to curb the plastic and battery waste generated by disposable Electronic cigarette products is to completely ban these products.
The report states: "It is meaningless to manufacture electronic products using rechargeable batteries, transport them to various parts of the world, and then throw them away within a few days
This report explores the environmental impact of disposable products and finds that due to the lack of infrastructure and regulation for electronic waste recycling, it is difficult for these devices to be properly recycled.
The disposable Electronic cigarette device also contains lithium ion batteries and small plastic parts. They also contain nicotine, which is considered a toxic chemical.
A PIRG report said: "According to the sales estimate of the CDC Foundation, the disposable Electronic cigarette sold within a year will stretch for 7.000 miles, enough to span the mainland of the United States twice." "This kind of Electronic cigarette waste is becoming more and more common, and cigarette butts are no longer as common as garbage scattered on beaches and waterways."
The report argues that federal and state legislation prohibits or restricts disposable Electronic cigarette to prevent them from entering landfills and waterways and prevent fires.
It also called on the US Food and Drug Administration to prioritize the implementation of marketing restrictions on Electronic cigarette, especially for disposable products.
